Emma Fielden is an Australian artist whose practice is situated at a meeting point between science and poetics. Her artworks bring together research and material explorations, taking various forms such as drawing, sculptural installation and performance. In a recent essay on her work, writer, curator and broadcaster Julie Ewington describes how Fielden ‘… scopes the universe through thinking about it. (She combs the history and philosophy of science, draws on recent developments in physics and astronomy, delights in mathematical conundra.) Eventually though, this conceptual investigation comes back to humans in search of a place in creation.’

Emma studied jewellery and object design, and exhibited her work solely in that field from 2007 to 2015, until her practice began to expand to incorporate the mediums she works through today.

Fielden’s work has been shown in eleven solo exhibitions since 2007 at venues such as The Lock-Up Newcastle, Mosman Art Gallery, Gallery Funaki and Dominik Mersch Gallery. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions, including shows at QUT Art Museum, Artspace Sydney, Art Gallery of South Australia, Australian Design Centre, Patricia Conde Galeria Mexico City, SOFA Chicago and Aaron Faber Gallery New York City. She has received awards including the Paramor Prize Mayoral Award (2017) and the National Contemporary Jewellery Award (2012), and has been a finalist in awards such as The Lake Art Prize (2020), the NSW Visual Arts Emerging Fellowship (2017), Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize (2017) and The Blake Prize (2016). In 2018, Fielden attended the Art Omi Artists’ Residency in New York, having been awarded the Art Omi Australia Committee Fellowship. She was a resident at Parramatta Artists’ Studios (PAS) from 2016 - 2018, and at PAS Rydalmere from 2019 - 2021.

For her artwork, Emma is represented by Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney. For her jewellery, she is represented by Gallery Funaki, Melbourne.
