Matthew Bromhead
Matthew Bromhead works between sculpture and drawing. His recent sculptural works
reference the notion of chance versus intent; the arbitrary acquisition of materials versus their
deliberate combination. They often contain kinetic and magnetised components.
Matthew Bromhead received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW in
2008. He held his first solo exhibition, Tempest Travel (2010), at Rex-Livingston Art Dealer,
Sydney, followed by Firstlight (2011) at Ray Hughes Gallery, Sydney and Landlubber (2013)
at Firstdraft Gallery, Sydney, Lapis Leisurely, at Bathurst Regional Gallery (2016), and most
recently held a solo exhibition Longline at Galerie Pompom, Sydney (2018). His work has
been included in numerous prizes, including the Paddington Art Prize (2017) and the
Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award (2016, 2019). He was represented by Ray Hughes Gallery
before its closure in 2016. In 2019 Bromhead was the inaugural recipient of the KRP studio
residency in Kedewatan, Indonesia. Bromhead will exhibit with Olsen Gallery in 2021.
